Who Are We
Portrait of our Printing Company
Hanton & Andersen was established in 1923
by William Hanton and Thomas Andersen, foremen printers
at Wanganui Chronicle and H.I. Jones Printers respectively.
The two current partners are Ed Boyd
and Hinemoa Ransom-Boyd.
In 1976 they purchased their first offset
printing press, which increased production greatly and it was
then that they decided to look for new ground floor premises as
space was a major problem.
A property in Indus Street was purchased and
interior renovations were completed in July 1978 when they shifted
in and hired their first staff member.
In 1980 with a staff of five full time and
two part time, the contract to print the revamped Photo
News (Outlook) was won by the firm which meant major re-tooling
was needed, necessitating the purchase of a brand new Heidelberg
GTO offset press at a cost of $45,000.00. Over the next
few years all the other machinery was gradually upgraded.
By 1983 the premises were once again
becoming very crowded and it was decided to demolish the
old building and completely rebuild it as a two storey factory
of 420sq m. enabling the company to combine a seperately
run stationery business into the same building.
Further expansion in 1996 meant a change of
premises to the present location at 76 Wilson Street with
1250sq m in total floor area, to accommodate future growth.
Over the last few years the staff has
increased to twenty plus with equipment being upgraded regularly
when required.
A name change in 2000 to H&A
Design & Print brings us up to date.
